# Math Tutor UBC

### Preparing for UBC

Are you a high school student preparing for being accepted at UBC? With an average acceptance rate of 52%, UBC is fairly demanding to enter. All first-year Calculus courses at UBC require successful completion of grade 12 Pre-Calculus Math (BC Pre-Calculus 12 or its equivalent). UBC does not offer courses equivalent to grade 12 pre-calculus Math. Additionally, all B.Sc. students must successfully complete appropriate foundational courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

If you need to complete a **Pre-Calculus Math **course for entrance to UBC and you feel that your Math skills need a boost, consider hiring a private Math tutor. It’s a temporary commitment that will probably help you get further in a shorter time.

## Lost in Math?

Are you a UBC student struggling to keep up with your Math courses? Are derivatives and trig functions giving you headaches? UBC has the Math Learning Center. Also, students have organized a few Discord servers to help each other, but the help but not be as specific as you want.

**First Year Calculus Tutoring**

First Year Calculus is well-known for being quite challenging. If you didn’t bring a good foundation from High School, you may suffer an initial shock and struggle a lot to catch up. There are some cases when more than half of the cohort groups fail to get the much needed grade to pass.

## How much is a Math tutor in Vancouver?

Our Math tutors offer personalized attention that is tailored to the student’s needs.

### No commitments or contracts

With TTS, you are not required to commit to any number of lessons, nor do we require you to sign a contract. It is a pay as you go system. You pay for each lesson when it takes place.

Our tutors are available to help with both short term needs (as short as one session) as well as ongoing tutoring, for those that are looking for help for a semester or a school year.

## How many Math lessons do I need?

Estimating the number of tutoring sessions needed for a student varies a lot depending on the student background and the course requirements.

For students who already have a solid Pre-Calculus background, they may require help only on homework problems and exam preparation. We would suggest maybe having one to two hours lessons per week.

For students having trouble understanding the concepts during class, we would recommends two or more 2-hour lessons per week.

## Still wondering about tutoring costs in Vancouver?

**Cost of tutoring broken down**

TTS is a non profit society – as such, our goal is to provide you with affordable, high quality tutoring, while minimizing cost. The bulk of the $55/hr hourly rate is paid to the tutor, while a small portion covers off TTS administration and staffing charges.
