Math Tutoring for SFU Students
Getting Ready for SFU Admission
Are you a high school student preparing to apply to Simon Fraser University (SFU)?
If you need to complete a Pre-Calculus Math course to meet SFU’s entrance requirements and feel like your math skills need some improvement, hiring a private tutor could be an excellent solution.
Struggling with Math?
First year calculus support
Calculus is notorious for being a difficult subject, especially for those who don’t have a strong math foundation from high school. Many students experience a significant challenge when transitioning to first-year calculus, and in some cases, over half of the class may fail to achieve the necessary grades to pass.
If you’re beginning to feel overwhelmed by calculus or other math topics, you may want to consider working with a private tutor. Tutors with university-level experience can be invaluable in helping you grasp these complex concepts and succeed in your studies.

How many tutoring sessions do I need?
The number of tutoring sessions required varies greatly depending on the student’s background and the complexity of the course. Here’s a general guideline:
For students with a solid Pre-Calculus foundation: If you are already comfortable with the basics of Pre-Calculus, you may only need help with homework or exam preparation. In this case, one to two-hour sessions per week should be enough.
For students struggling with core concepts: If you’re finding it difficult to keep up with class material, we can recommend scheduling two or more 2-hour lessons per week to ensure you get the support you need to understand the course material.
By working with one of our skilled tutors, you can feel confident in your ability to master your math courses and succeed in your academic journey at SFU.
Still wondering about tutoring costs in Vancouver?
Cost of tutoring broken down
TTS is a non profit society – as such, our goal is to provide you with affordable, high quality tutoring, while minimizing cost. The bulk of the $55/hr hourly rate is paid to the tutor, while a small portion covers off TTS administration and staffing charges.
Additionally, a portion of the tutoring rate is donated to TAS Tutoring Aid Society. TAS is our registered BC charity that provides subsidized tutoring services to students that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford tutoring.
